MRI STEEL FRAMING

MRI Steel Framing is focused on maximum quality through the use of state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment; Bradbury and B&K/Formtek Super Mills.  This equipment allows MRI to produce a full range of metal framing products and accessories.

Our roll formers produce stud and track from 25 gauge drywall to 10 gauge structural at high speeds with quick changeover. We can manufacture any web size from 1-5/8” to 16” and leg lengths from 1” to 4”. Our accessory line produces Furring Channel, RC-1, Z-Furring Channel, U-Channel, Rolled Angles, and Components.

MRI’s experience in the flat rolled steel industry, along with that of its coil processing sister company, spans decades.  Our organization currently handles and processes over 350,000 tons of steel coil annually.

MATERIAL CERTIFICATION AND SPECIFICATIONS

MRI certifies that the metal stud and track manufactured by us complies with ASTM C-645 and ASTM C-955. Section property tables and load tables are listed in our catalog and available upon request.

MRI manufactures products with a minimum yield stress of 33 ksi or 50 ksi. Product technical data contained in the SFIA catalog are engineered to meet the 2016 edition of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) S100-16 “Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members”.  The structural properties in the SFIA catalog have been computed based on allowable stress design which includes distortional buckling considerations for all stud sections.

Only “Certified Steel” is utilized in the production process, which results in the highest quality products available. Copies of steel mill certificates or third party testing certificates are available upon request.

The property and load tables contained in our tables have been reviewed and certified by a professional engineer with significant experience in cold-formed metal framing. Stamped copies of each table showing conformance with the referenced AISI documents are available upon request. All specifications, data and details contained in the SFIA catalog are intended as a general guide for using MRI products.

These products should not be used in design or construction without an independent evaluation by a qualified engineer or architect to verify the suitability of a particular product for use in a specific application. MRI assumes no liability for failure resulting from the use or misapplication of computations, detail drawings and specifications contained in the SFIA catalog – it contains the latest information available at the time of printing.  MRI reserves the right to make modifications and/or change materials of any of our products without prior notice or obligation.

ASTM Specification Descriptions

A1003
Standard specification for steel sheet, carbon, metallic- and nonmetallic-coated for cold formed framing members.

A653
Standard specification for sheet steel, zinc-coated (galvanized) or zinc-iron alloy coated (galvannealed) by hotdip process.

A591
Standard specification for steel sheet, electrolytic zinc-coated, for light coating weight (mass) applications.

C645
Standard specification for nonstructural steel framing members.

C955
Standard specification for load-bearing (transverse and axial) steel studs, runners (tracks), and bracing or bridging for screw application of gypsum panel products and metal plaster bases.

C1047
Standard specification for accessories for gypsum wallboard and gypsum veneer base.

PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION

All products have a four part section/member identification code which identifies the size (web and leg width), type and material thickness of each member.

Example: 362 S 125 – 18

362 Web width 3-5/8” = 362 x 1/100 inches. All web widths are taken in 1/100 inches. For all “T” sections member web is the inside to inside dimension.

S Type S = Stud or Joist sections; T = Track sections. 125 Leg width 1-1/4” = 125 x 1/100 inches. All leg widths are taken in 1/100 inches.

18 Metal thickness 0.018 in. = 18 mils; 1 mil = 1/1000 inch. Metal thickness is the minimum base metal thickness in mils. Minimum base metal thickness represents 95% of design thickness.
